1993 VINTAGE CARPHONE TOY In an era when even three months seems a lifetime in mobile phone technology, here is a real dinosaur. This toy carphone - known as a Celluclone - was produced in 1993, when car telephones were all the rage, and were not affected by leglislation making their use illegal. The handset measures eight inches (around 205mm) at its longest point, and comes attached to a proper curly cable which links to the stand. As a joke, I had this phone fitted to the dashboard of a 1963 Austin Cambridge car, and would pretend to take calls when stationary at traffic lights - to the astonishment of drivers alongside. To continue the joke today, simply use double-sided tape to fix the phone to any dashboard, and make mid-90s calls in the old-fashioned way. Not for use by driver! |
