Under
the Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 & XP*,
besides can work as Wi-Fi station to connect to available wireless
network, it can work as AP (Access Point), too ! This is a great
feature that is done by bridging this adapter to your existing
network/internet connection.
For example, it is
great for the following applications:
- When
travelling, after connecting to a 3G or Wi-Fi internet access (through
your laptop's 3G card or Wi-Fi device), you can bridge the connection
to this adapter in AP mode and share the connection with
friends/spouse.
- In the home/office environment,
the AP mode will enable you to extend the range and the strength of
your wireless network, it will act as a wireless repeater for your
home/office network.
It is also
claimed by manufacturer that the adapter is capable of creating a
network for PSP/NDSL/Wii online games, however, please note that it
need additinal software like Xlink Kai or NDS Lite, and we will not
able to provide technical advice on these gaming aspect, Google is you
best friend if you intend to use this adapter for gaming purpose.
* Remarks: In Vista and Mac OS X, AP mode is not
functional for the time being (due to unavailability of the utility
software), only as wi-fi station (infrastructure and ad hoc mode
selectable). Under Linux, this adapter is known to be able to do a lot
of tricks, but softwares are not included (Linux driver provided,
however) and we do not have much working knowledge of this adapter
under Linux environment.
