By Means of the sensor electrodes placed on the platform, a harmless quantity of electricity passes through the legs, then measures the total volume of water and consequently, the quantity of muscles and thin tissues of the person. - contrary to fat, muscles contain very little water.

The difference between weight and quantity of thin tissue expresses the volume of body fat ; this volume is extrapolated to the whole body to calculate a fat percentage. On the screen, a cursor indicates the level of the results in comparison with the average expected.
