Plastic Jewelry of the Twentieth Century
The author, Lillian Baker, is well-known for her expertise in many different types of jewelry, and this book is one of her best. An introduction to plastic jewelry begins the book, along with commentaries on pricing and evaluating pieces and 50 'thumbnail sketches' of significant events in the history of plastics and their role in jewelry production. Hundreds of large, detailed photographs follow, with captions containing descriptions, dates, nomenclature, and historical data. There are also period advertisements and illustrations with captions that add to the diversity of the book. Extensive biographies on famous designers such as Kenneth Jay Lane and Eugene Joseff are included, as well as complete definitions and descriptions of the various plastics, including Bakelite, celluloid, lucite, catalin, lumarith, and beetle. Tradenames, uses, colors, and unique characteristics of various types of plastic accompany the vast amount of information in this encyclopedia. Finally, there are cross-referencing indexes for designer names and jewelry and accessories. A must for any jewelry collector's library. This book retails for $24.95.
This book is a publisher remainder and stamped on the inside cover. The book has some light shelf wear.
