OLD PRESSED WOOD CEDAR BOX W/ PAINTING ON LID

I got this from man in his 70's who told me that it belonged to his mother and she used it as a sewing box. My father looked at it for me and confirmed that it is all cedar. It is in pretty good shape with a tiny part of a back foot missing but no other damage. The surface needs a good cleaning though and the finish has small bumps that make it look like it has a rash. It is above the wood so I am thinking its the lacquer. I have included a close up of the surface. My father thought it might have been made that way but I dont think so. The side handles are a bit rustish. No deterioration and it might again just need a good cleaning. The box itself is not dovetailed but is jointed where it connects. No nails etc.  The picture on the top is a print and the surface of it has the same "rash" as the box. I believe the wood is pressed not carved and the clasp, hinges and handles all have an art deco flair to them. Most of the hardware is not attached with nails etc. I dont know if it is glued or what. The only pieces I can see attached are on the inside of the box there is something where the hinges are. The box is not marked and I have no idea who made it or where it came from.It measures 10 5/8 inches long, 6.5 inches wide and is 4.5 inches tall. A fellow ebayer told me that her boss was given a box like this from a vendor in the 1950s and that it was filled with candy. I find it weird that someone would sell cedar boxs with candy in them. Still its a very nice cedar box that would be great to use for sewing items or your jewelry!

All items are stored in a smoke free home! Sometimes family and friends save boxes and packing material for me as I am a nut about recycling. Some of them smoke in their homes. When I bring boxes etc home that have been given to me I store them with my shipping supplies in my garage and hope they will be aired out before I use them. If you are allergic to smoke please let me know and I will make sure a box and packing material is not from those sources. However once it leaves here I have no control over postal employees who smoke while driving around delivering mail.

Please remember that when you are bidding on vintage, antique, secondhand, collectible and estate items- most are not 100% perfect and will show some evidence of age, usage and general wear. I buy what I like and sell them as I find them. I do not attempt to make repairs and try not to clean them. I try to describe items as honestly and accurately as possible and some things that I see as normal aging, others might see as a flaw or defect. I am not an expert and don’t always know what to look for when examining an item SO PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH QUESTIONS.

Shipping costs are based on your zip code! I don't wrap or weigh until the auction is over but if you want a shipping total I am more than happy to send you one.  If I am giving you a total on an item in my store I will only honor that for 7 days. Rather than taping up a new box I will use what is sitting around and reshelve the item quoted on.  I do combine shipping and handling if you buy more than one item.

International buyers please email me for a shipping quote prior to bidding. USPS rates have increased and shipping options are limited. I accept paypal from international buyers as well as money orders (in US currency). If you would like insurance please let me know and I will try to find out the cost for your country. Sometimes Ebays shipping calculator is off on International Shipping quotes so if you are overcharged I will do a partial refund thru paypal. I will also send you a copy of the postal receipt and the customs form for your records.

Payment needs to reach me within 10 business days of your receiving the invoice. Communication is important when buying or selling on Ebay so if I don’t hear from you I will not hesitate to report you as an unpaid buyer with Ebay. Please let me know if you are mailing payment so I can let you know when it arrives. I ship USPS every through out the week and usually ship within 24 hours. Insurance is extra and recommended for all items selling under $20.00 and required for items selling above that. I will not be responsible for damage or lost packages during shipping. I have shipped hundreds of fragile items worldwide with no damage or loss(knock on wood). A $2 handling fee is added to all shipping totals and goes towards packing materials, gas for the many postal trips I make to ship out fast and I pay  for delivery confirmation on US shipping.
