I Saw Two Englands by H.V. Morton His last glimpse of pre-war England and his first impressions of England at war.  Revisited and photographed 50 years on by Tommy Candler.

In very good condition.  No tears, no writing, clean.  Cover and binding are sound.

In May 1939, Morton, having decided that war with Germany was inevitable, felt compelled to make a joruney around the country to catch what he thought might be a last glimpse of pre-war England.  He explored the countryside, the villages and stately homes, which he felt might be changed or lost forever.  His 2nd journey took place in October 1939 - when he recorded his impressions of a country at war. An England of munitions factories, blackouts, POW camps and the Home Guard.    50 years later, Tommy Candler has retraced Mortons footsteps taking photos of all those places he visted and happily dispelling his fears by finding an England extraordinarily unchanged.  Lots of photos!    Non-smoking home.  All items sold as is.  We live rural, 38 miles round trip to the Post Office – so we usually go to town about twice a week to ship.   Buy with confidence!
