Carmean rivals Matisse and Vuillard in this painting with his painterly, free technique and flame like colors. The photo doesn't do it justice and I can assure you that the painting is a lot more magical in person. The fact is that Carmean's luminosity and grandness is hard to convey in a small image on your screen. The painting is 36 x 40", is done with oil paints on canvas, is signed and dated and is in very good condition. Carmean did a only few paintings in this style, and one similar painting is included in the book "Carmean" (available in the store) on page 30. Personally, I like this one better - "it rocks", as they say. While there is a lot of freedom of the technique, the figures are always anatomically accurate and impeccably arranged, just as we have come to expect from Harry Carmean. Why this painting is on ebay instead of a museum is anyone's guess......it is a major work of art. |
