Dunsmuir's Dream

Ladysmith, The First Fifty Years by Richard Goodacre - signed

This book is a history of Ladysmith, an historic town on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. "This history relates to the birth [in 1900] and growth of Ladysmith, its distinctive cultural and social background, its collapse with the failing of the coal mines, and its eventual re-birth as the centre of a major logging undustry." It describes in detail what life was like on Vancouver Island for people living in coal mines in the early part of the twentieth century; the 1909 explosion of the Extension Mine near Ladysmith was just one of a series of mining catastrophes that touched the lives of many Vancouver Islanders. It chronicles what many in BC experienced: the transition from one natural resource economy (mining) to another (logging). Ladysmith continues to thrive today - anyone interested in the area will find this book fascinating.

The includes many black and white pictures, maps, and references to prominent people in the area.

The book is in excellent condition with no tears, stains or inscriptions apart from the author's signature.
